Black Friday is coming up soon and what better way to make sure you’re prepared for it than to try and clear some space on your credit cards! Doing your Black Friday shopping on a credit card may seem a little risky, but if you plan it out just right it can actually help you improve your credit score. More activity on your cards can be a positive thing which can get you to raise your credit score.

In our article on Credit 101, we explained how the credit system works. In order to build credit consumers have to make credit purchases and then prove they are responsible enough to meet their financial obligations by paying that money back on time. So a good way to build a credit score this holiday season might be to clear up space on your credit cards and then use them for your holiday shopping. If you’ve already saved up for Black Friday and have enough money for your gifts, then you should be able to use that money to pay off your card balance in full after Black Friday. If you pay the balance off in full by the end of the month you don’t get charged interest!

By taking this route over the holiday season you can take advantage of the shopping you would be doing anyway as a means to build your credit score. Then you can use your new boost in your score to help you snag more credit opportunities for those gifts that you want to give this season that are a bit on the pricey side and may require payments.
